But to escape family pressure, the young woman, in search of independence, decides to move into her own apartment and tries to erase her foreign origins. She soon meets her next-door neighbor, Emma, a destitute supermarket cashier who is raising her two children on her own. Although they have nothing in common, the two women will gradually develop a deep friendship. If Djemila helps Emma solve an urgent financial problem, Emma convinces Djemila to start as a singer.
